Walkerton to Haiti
Clean Water Project

Over the past three months a group of students led by Courtney Bushell and myself have been fundraising to drill a well in Haiti in memory of the seven people who lost their lives and the thousands that were sickened during the Walkerton ecoli crisis, in time for the tenth anniversary celebrations. We ran a number of fundraisers both in school and in thecommunity including a penny race, popcorn sales, a BBQ, collected e-waste, sold rainbarrels, and "Bricks for Haiti". I am pleased to announce that we not only met our goal of $3000 but surpassed this for a grand total of $4288.65! That amount is enough to drill not only a well but to also build a washroom in a Haitian community in need.

We presented the cheque to Teresa McLellan of Lifewater Canada, the Canadian based organization we purchased our well through. Teresa mentioned that she will be using our school as an example of how students can bring about positive change and she is thrilled with our success!

Here, Mr. Peabody starts the day off after getting a pie served up by Erica Mawhinney with organizers Cassie Arnold (left) and Courtney Hicks (right). At least 5 staff members are lined up for surprise attacks during the day - all to raise money to help kids to camp! Way to show your heart!
