When asked about her experience, Poechman explained, “I really encourage everyone to go out and apply for this award. Despite the competition from around the world, I was able to simply write an essay between 1,500 and 2,000 words and it was absolutely worth it. I now have friends to visit in places such as Burkina Faso, Romania and Thailand which gives me such a wonderful feeling.”
