2018 Stepping Away From Stigma Walk
05/28/2018
SHHS 2018 Stepping Away From Stigma Raising Awareness for Mental Health Just wanted to remind everyone that Wednesday May 30, 2018 is our Annual STIGMA walk held at SHHS. Mental Health challenges affect us all as a school community and outside of these walls. Lets support saying no to the STIGMA that still surrounds Mental Health challenges. The walk will take place Wed May 30th. We will meet in front of the school at 11:30 for prayer before we start. I ask that we join together as a whole school community and participate in this activity. Like every year we do encourage a toonie donation, but all are welcome to walk. This year again a pizza lunch will be offered to the top earning class. So come on everyone let's take the first step and WALK THE TALK.

Faith
Gr12 Religion
01/30/2018
What’s Happening in Religion Class? It’s the end of the first semester at SHHS and students have finished exams and have completed their summative projects. For one grade 12 French Immersion Religion class, this project was more than a written assignment. Last fall, their teacher challenged her 20 students to go out into their communities and put Faith into action. Journaling their experiences as they reflect on biblical passages and Catholic Graduate Expectations are also required. One group of boys volunteered to work at the Walkerton Food Bank. They also collected food from many homes in Walkerton and filled the trunks of their cars a few times. Another group spent valuable time at Brucelea Haven getting to know the residents while visiting and enjoying activities with them. A smaller group of Kincardine students entertained the residents at Malcolm Place Trillium Court, by playing the violin, the piano and singing. One group prepared a talk on the available resources for mental health questions and issues for grade 9 students. Another solo student helped with the Youth Choir that was part of the Singing Tree. As they complete these projects, the students are overwhelmed with the positive responses to their work. The recipients of these projects are thankful and hopeful that these projects become ongoing.
