What’s Happening in Religion Class?

It’s the end of the first semester at SHHS and students have finished  exams and have completed their summative projects.  For one grade 12 French Immersion Religion class, this project was more than a written assignment.   Last fall, their teacher challenged her 20 students to go out into their communities and put Faith into action. Journaling their experiences as they reflect on biblical passages and Catholic Graduate Expectations are also required.  One group of boys volunteered to work at the Walkerton Food Bank.  They also collected food from many homes in Walkerton and filled the trunks of their cars a few times.  Another group spent valuable time at Brucelea Haven getting to know the residents while visiting and enjoying activities with them.  A smaller group of Kincardine students entertained the residents at Malcolm Place Trillium Court, by playing the violin, the piano and singing.  One group prepared a talk on the available resources for mental health questions and issues for grade 9 students.  Another solo student helped with the Youth Choir that was part of the Singing Tree.  As they complete these projects, the students are overwhelmed with the positive responses to their work.  The recipients of these projects are thankful and hopeful that these projects become ongoing.
