Running With Team Unbreakable

Hello Crusaders

My name is Derek Ditner. I attended Sacred Heart, graduating in 2010. I am now working as a Registered Kinesiologist with the Brockton and Area Family Health Team. Social worker Susan Dietz and I are planning a run group known as Team Unbreakable that is directed towards teenagers aged 13-19 and involves meeting twice a week for progressively more challenging runs to assist in completion of a 5km race (Colleen Lantz Run 4 Youth 5km Saturday August 12th) as well as a weekly presentation on an aspect of mental wellness.

Team Unbreakable programs are modeled after the highly successful youth at risk run-therapy program developed by Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario. It has since been introduced by CameronHelps into elementary and high schools, community organizations, health care organizations, and hospitals.

Programs such as this one have many benefits in relation to mental wellness. Increased physical activity, the social benefit of belonging to a group, and the sense of accomplishment of completing a race all positively benefit our wellbeing. We wish to provide this opportunity to teenagers who may not otherwise get to experience this, especially those who aren’t otherwise meeting physical activity guidelines and those who will be positively impacted by the benefits of physical activity in a social environment on mental health.

We would sincerely appreciate your help in spreading the word to your students and displaying the attached poster. We are happy to answer any questions you have either by email, phone number listed below, or by arranging a time to come to the school to speak with you or your students. Websites and  can also both provide further information if you wish.
