Pope Leo XIV's first blessing upon us, "Peace be with you all," echoes the very heart of Christ's message following his resurrection. It reminds us that true peace – the peace of Christ – is a gift meant to reside within each of us, extending outwards to our families and communities. This simple yet profound greeting calls us to cultivate peace in our own lives and to be instruments of peace in the world around us.
From the loggia of St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Leo XIV also shared a message close to his heart: a call for peace and dialogue, a dialogue without fear. He reminded us of his identity as an Augustinian priest, but above all, as a Christian and a bishop, emphasizing that "we can all walk together." This powerful image of journeying together, rooted in open and fearless dialogue, speaks to the unity and collaboration that should define our synodal Church and our interactions with one another.
As Cardinal Robert Francis Prévost takes on the mantle of Pope Leo XIV, we are called to embrace him with open hearts and prayers. His journey of faith, marked by years of missionary service and leadership within the Church, speaks to a deep commitment to God's people. We trust that his pastoral heart will guide us with compassion and wisdom.
Let us reflect on the significance of this moment as a renewed opportunity for unity and spiritual growth within our Catholic community. Pope Leo XIV's leadership invites us to deepen our own faith, to reach out to one another with love and understanding, and to be living witnesses to the Gospel.
We encourage our students and staff to pray for Pope Leo XIV, that he may be strengthened and inspired by the Holy Spirit in his vital ministry. May his leadership foster a deeper sense of belonging and purpose within our Church and inspire us all to live lives rooted in faith, hope, and love.
