As a Catholic school system, our response to Truth and Reconciliation is fundamentally rooted in the Gospel mandate to love God and love our neighbour. The path toward true healing requires sincere repentance, personal conversion, and a shared commitment to justice. We recognize this as a moral duty guided by the teachings of Christ. We are called to be leaders and active participants in this essential journey by undertaking the necessary work of learning, unlearning, and holding space for the truth, and committing to action with Indigenous partners.
Our students and staff will continue to engage in age-appropriate, faith-informed learning that ensures the true history and legacy of Residential Schools are taught alongside the vibrant histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. This learning is essential to fostering empathy and ensuring that the painful errors of the past are never repeated.
We encourage every member of our community today, September 30th, to engage in personal reflection, prayer, and dialogue. May the Holy Spirit grant us the courage and wisdom to listen with open hearts, to understand with humility, and to act with justice.
With deep solemnity and a renewed commitment to reconciliation,
Karyn Bruneel
Director of Education
